Tony Borbon Youth Scholarship Video Contest

The Violence Prevention Coalition of Greater Los Angeles and the Violence Policy Center are announcing the second annual Tony Borbon Youth Scholarship Video Contest. The Scholarship is named after Tony Borbon, firefighter and activist. High school students in Los Angeles County have a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship by submitting a short film or video on the impact of gun violence. The amount of the scholarship is $1,000. The runner-up will receive $500.

The mission of the Violence Prevention Coalition of Greater Los Angeles is to unify and strengthen voices of member organizations and individuals committed to ending the epidemic of violence by providing education, resources, and policy advocacy.


The Tony Borbon Youth Scholarship Video Contest is open to all students currently enrolled in high school within Los Angeles County.

How to Apply:

• The candidates can apply online through the given link for the video contest:

• You should submit films or videos that explain how gun violence hurts our communities as well as the positive actions we can take to reduce gun violence.

Video Guidelines:

• Films/Videos should up to 3 minutes in length (can be shorter) and include some mention of goals or ideas to reduce gun violence.

• Entrants must maintain significant personal control over the content and aesthetics of the film/video (producing, directing, writing, editing, etc.).

Award Amount:

Winning entries will receive the following scholarship prizes:

• First Place: $1,000

• Runner Up: $500

Application Deadline:

Entries are due by August 1, 2016. The winner will be honored on September 21, 2016
