Naval History Essay Contest 2016

2016 Naval History Essay Contest is sponsored by The William M. Wood Foundation. The contest is open to any contributor-active duty military, reservists, veterans, civilian government personnel, and civilians. The Essay Contest is aligned with the 2016 Naval History Conference and its theme – “The Athena Conference: Heroines Past, Present, and Future.” Three prizes of $5000, $2500, $1500 amount will be given to the winning candidates. The candidates will also get a one-year membership in the U.S. Naval Institute and a one-year subscription to Naval History magazine.

The Mission of U.S. Naval Institute is to provide an independent forum for those who dare to read, think, speak, and write to advance the professional, literary, and scientific understanding of sea power and other issues critical to national defense.

Eligibility:

The scholarship is open to any contributor – active duty military, reservists, veterans, civilian government personnel, and civilians.

How to Apply:

To be applying for essay contest, the candidates must write an essay.  This year the Essay Contest is aligned with the 2016 Naval History Conference and its theme — “The Athena Conference: Heroines Past, Present, and Future.”

Submitting Details:

• The candidates can email essay to: essays-at-usni.org
• Include Naval History Essay Contest Submission in subject line of email
• Include word count on title page of essay but do not include your name on title page or within the essay
• Provide separate attachment to include biography and complete contact information –, i.e., work, home, and cell phone numbers; and home mailing address

Award Amount:

All prizes include a one-year membership in the U.S. Naval Institute and a one-year subscription to Naval History magazine. Awards are as follows:

• First Prize: $5,000
• Second Prize: $2,500
• Third Prize: $1,500

Application Deadline:

Scholarship application deadline is July 31, 2016.
